JD in Sweeny Todd

Talk about a flash from the past. I remember being crazy about Jason Donovan when I was twelve at school. Turns out his staring in Sweeny Todd in a Manchester production and so am trotting down with a few pals to relieve our childhood crushes. I'm also singing Mrs Lovett from Sweeny Todd for an opera excerpt in June so will be a good chance to hear and see it live.
TP rehearsals are going well but are really tiring. Have to keep the energy level up up up for 6 hours. Am exhausted by the end of it. Three weeks more to showtime...sheesh! where has the time gone.
The photos came back from the photographer. ok lah. Not over the moon about it but think it will do for the Aug concert. We've decided to call it 'Come to me in my Dreams' just need to find the graphics for it and we'll have our press release out soon.

Weekend visit

Rehearsals are going well. Our director and conductor are terrific and keeps making us push our performance just a little further each time. We finally did a whole scene. Am giving myself vocal rest for these 2 days. Been overusing my voice this week and am a little tired out.I am doing Mrs Lovett from Sweeny Todd for my first opera excerps in June. Hmmm...all these opera musicals...
Melvin is coming over to Manchester for the weekend. Will be nice to catch up and look at rep for the concert. We will be going to the photographer on Sunday to take photos for the programme.
Got my final rep list together, now the task is to learn everything. Stress levels are building up:) Had plenty of news from friends and relatives this week. Both good and bad. Still its nice to hear from them.

Decisions Decisions

Decided to go ahead and apply for my final year recital. I figured that if I'm not ready I can always pull out but at least it will give me something to work towards. It would also be an excellent form of feedback. Meanwhile its not like I have lots of free time either. The threepenny rehearsals are everyday with plenty to work on from each rehearsal. Did not realize how tiring it can be to be in an opera . Leaves little time and energy for anything else. I also have an opera excerpt to prepare for in June. Hmm don't know if I can pull together a recital in time. Also must be careful not to be too ambitious. Singing for 50 mins is no joke esp with heavy rep.

Weekend News

Was a lovely weekend. Got a lift up to Leeds on Sat morning with a friend of mine and had a quick run through the song before the concert at the Leeds college of Music. The recital went brilliantly altho as always the recording we did at 3pm before the concert was crap. I officially hate recording...bah!Was really nice as my little composer's parents came up and thanked me after the concert. We also scored free tickets to the national opera studio opera exceprts that was running later that nite at the same venue. Was very good and must say there was one especially good looking tenor..tee hee.. Anyhow got back home late and slept in the next day and was nearly late for church. Met some of the girls for yum cha and then did some practising, laundry, tiding up etc. Quite a productive weekend if I might say so myself. Anyhow rehearsals for the three penny start tomorrow and I also have to look for a nice french song cycle to do for the aug concert.
